TAX CUTS SEEM EXTREME? JUST CLOSE ALL THE LIBRARIES!

Yup -- libraries: who needs 'em?

DENVER (AP) -- Supporters of three tax measures on the Colorado ballot say state and local governments could close libraries and put their books online and sell off light rail to cut spending if the measures pass.

Gregory Golyansky, vice president of the Colorado Union of Taxpayers, told students and professors from the University of Colorado Denver on Friday that printed books are going away and light rail is 19th century technology....

Put all the books online? Duh, I guess we didn't think of that because we're stupid tax-and-spend liberals! After all, everyone knows that when you put a bunch of books in a room with a scanner, they just scan and upload themselves automatically -- and then maintain a massive, Web site containing the uploaded books all by themselves! For free!

Golyansky has more ideas:

"Do we really need to fill our prisons with nonviolent offenders, drug offenders, prostitutes and what not? We will have about two-thirds less people in our prisons...," Golyansky said.

Um, that doesn't sound awful to me, Mr. Tax Hater, but you may have to convince some of your allies:

A new poll shows that half of those who consider themselves part of the tea party movement also identify as part of the religious right....

Fifty-five percent of people who say they are part of the tea party agree that "America has always been and is currently a Christian nation" -- 6 points more than the percentage of self-described Christian conservatives who would say that....

The new poll ... showed large swaths of the tea party looking for a strong government role in hot-button social issues. Nearly two-thirds say abortion should be illegal in all or most cases, and 45 percent said there should be no legal recognition for same-sex couples....

Just don't tax anybody to incarcerate the sinners (and, if many of these teabagging Christians have their way, probably the gays and the abortionists, too). I'm sure we can lock 'em all up if we just ... um, get rid of all the libraries and light rail.
